■ Attendee Reactions (comments to be added)

Mr. Patrick LIM, CEO of ACE:

This is really good. It has a delightful matcha-like flavor. There’s also a unique twist to it, but if you told me it was matcha, I’d totally agree. We are happy to see more innovative Japanese startups like Morus expanding into Singapore and look forward to supporting their growth and development in Singapore and the region.

Mr. Tong Hsien-Hui, Executive Director, Investments, SGInnovate

It feels a bit different from matcha, but the flavor is great. As an investor, the key thing for me is economic viability. The product itself seems well-developed, so I have high expectations.

Mr. John Cheng, Founder & CEO of Innovate360

The taste is remarkably close to Matcha, opening up numerous possibilities for developing new food applications. And with the impending regulatory approvals concerning edible insects, this presents Morus and the industry with a significant opportunity to innovate and contribute to ensuring greater food security in Singapore.

■ Future Outlook

The food industry is rapidly evolving due to global warming and population growth, leading to a significant demand for protein by 2030. Morus Inc. aims to address the “Protein Crisis” through new technologies, local farmer collaborations, corporate partnerships, and innovative ideas, offering high-value silkworm products and services. With inquiries already received from several companies, Morus is poised to make substantial global impacts and support industries in Japan and Singapore.

■ About Morus

Morus is a university-oriented startup company with a focus on food and nutrition science of silkworms. We research and produce biomaterials made from silkworms, the insects that have supported development of the Japanese economy. Our mission is to solve global problems such as the protein crisis by creating new food ingredients and raw materials from silkworms and supplying them to multiple industries through efficient mass production.

Silkworms are naturally rich in protein, have abundant nutrients, and are full of potential. There have been great advances in the research of silkworms’ unique nutrients that are not found in other insects. Silkworms are suitable for mass production because of their nature of not escaping and not cannibalizing, which has been developed over the long history of domestication. Ongoing research on silkworms continues to yield new discoveries. We believe silkworms will solve the global food crisis and health problems, and even help promote other industries using Japanese technologies and new research findings.
