Morus Inc. (CEO: Ryo Sato; Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; hereinafter “Morus”), whose vision is “Crafting through Tradition, Thriving with Nutrition,” is pleased to announce that pre-orders for SilkDiet+, a new product from its KAIKO brand, open on Thursday, October 29, 2026. SilkDiet+ is a Food with Function Claims (Notification No. L230) whose functional ingredient is iminosugar derived from Japanese silkworms. It is a supplement containing an ingredient reported to moderate the rise in post-meal blood glucose levels, taken as 3 capsules before meals. Pre-orders will be accepted through partner medical institutions and the official online store until 12:00 PM on Friday, November 13, when the product officially goes on sale. SilkDiet+ is a Food with Function Claims under Japan’s regulatory system and is available exclusively in Japan (The same product is sold in Singapore as “DNJ+”). A separate overseas version of the product is listed on the product list of the Voluntary Notification Scheme (“VNS”) run by Singapore’s Health Sciences Authority (“HSA”).
Many people start to pay attention to their post-meal blood glucose after a health checkup. When those numbers first become a concern, there is still room to make a difference by reviewing daily diet and lifestyle habits. At the same time, many people say that changing their diet and exercise routines is hard to sustain in busy lives full of work and business dinners.
Since its founding in 2021, Morus has focused on sericulture, one of Japan’s traditional industries, and has carried out research and development that redefines the silkworm as a nutritional resource. Building on that knowledge, SilkDiet+ is designed for easy daily use: 3 capsules before each meal. It is the KAIKO brand’s first Food with Function Claims.
Silkworms feed only on mulberry leaves and store the iminosugar those leaves contain. SilkDiet+ uses 100% Japanese silkworm powder, and its iminosugar content is analyzed and controlled to specification for every lot of raw material.
Take 3 capsules with water or lukewarm water before meals, 1 to 3 times a day. The capsule format makes it easy to fit in even on days full of eating out or business dinners.
The product is made from silkworms raised with Morus’s own mulberry fields and plant, along with silkworms from contracted sericulture farms in Japan. It is manufactured at a Japanese facility certified under Japan’s Health Food GMP standards.
The function of SilkDiet+ was evaluated through a systematic review of research on its functional ingredient, iminosugar, not through a clinical trial of the finished product, and was submitted to Japan’s Consumer Affairs Agency.
One of the papers included in the review reports a randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind crossover trial in 22 healthy adults. In that trial, the rise in blood glucose (Δ blood glucose) 30 minutes after eating a test food containing iminosugar was about 30% lower than after a placebo food (P<0.01).

Morus does not rely only on past literature, animal studies, or in vitro results to show what an ingredient does. We are committed to confirming whether the actual finished product works in humans.
Since our founding, we have been taking a fresh look at sericulture, a traditional Japanese industry, from the perspective of nutrition and food science. With that goal, we have carried out joint research with world-leading institutions, including Shinshu University (where Morus has its roots), the University of Illinois in the United States, and Singapore’s Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR).
We will continue to pursue function and safety that meet global standards, not only Japanese ones.
The overseas version of the product “DNJ+” is listed on the product list of the VNS for health supplements, operated by the HSA. Under the VNS, companies document how their products meet HSA standards for safety, quality, and labeling, and only products that meet those standards appear on the public list.
Morus also has a base in Singapore, and KAIKO brand products are offered at multiple medical institutions in Japan and Singapore. Many customers buy them repeatedly and use them as part of their daily routine.
*Listing on the VNS does not mean the HSA recommends the product or guarantees its effects. The overseas product and SilkDiet+, the Food with Function Claims sold in Japan, are subject to different regulatory systems and carry different labeling. SilkDiet+ (Notification No. L230), the subject of this release, is available only in Japan.

“Since founding the company, our goal has been to take what I learned about nutrition through sports, apply it to prevention and pre-symptomatic health, and make it a global norm. If we can do that, the world will be a healthier place, and that is what I want to deliver.
With that in mind, we have focused on bringing the silkworm to people as real products. The silkworm has been used in traditional Chinese medicine since ancient times, and sericulture is one of Japan’s traditional industries.
SilkDiet+ is our first Food with Function Claims, born from the silkworm, an ingredient that originated in Japan. We will work closely with medical institutions that value the evidence behind our products, and grow SilkDiet+ into a product that supports each person’s eating and nutrition habits.”
Q1. What is SilkDiet+?
SilkDiet+ is a Food with Function Claims (Notification No. L230) sold by Morus Inc. under its KAIKO brand. Its functional ingredient is iminosugar derived from Japanese silkworms. It comes in capsules, and the recommended intake is 3 capsules before meals.
Q2. What is iminosugar?
Iminosugar is a compound found in mulberry leaves. It inhibits α-glucosidase, an enzyme that breaks down sugars. This slows the absorption of sugar from meals, and iminosugar is reported to moderate the rise in post-meal blood glucose levels.
Q3. Why use silkworms as the raw material?
Silkworms feed only on mulberry leaves and store iminosugar in their bodies. This allows the functional ingredient to be obtained consistently from a single raw material.
Q4. What is a Food with Function Claims?
It is a food whose function claims, based on scientific evidence, are made on the company’s own responsibility and notified to the Commissioner of Japan’s Consumer Affairs Agency. Unlike Foods for Specified Health Uses (FOSHU), it is not individually reviewed by the Commissioner.
Q5. Where can I buy it?
Pre-orders open on October 29, 2026 through partner medical institutions and the KAIKO Official Online Store. Official sales are scheduled to begin at 12:00 PM on Friday, November 13, 2026. ★SilkDiet+ is sold only in Japan.
Q6. Are there any precautions?
Because it is made from silkworms, it contains components similar to those in shrimp and crab. People with shellfish allergies should not take it.
Q7. Is it sold outside Japan?
SilkDiet+ itself is available exclusively in Japan. A separate overseas version of the product “DNJ+” is listed on the product list of the Voluntary Notification Scheme (VNS) run by Singapore’s Health Sciences Authority (HSA). The listing does not mean the HSA recommends the product.
Q8. Do you conduct your own studies?
Yes. Separately from the research review used for the notification, we have commissioned a third-party organization to run a human study using capsules with the same formulation as SilkDiet+. This study does not demonstrate the function of SilkDiet+.
