Morus enhances food traceability with blockchain — Pilot introduction of origin certification on selected products

Morus Inc. (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Ryo Sato) has launched a new initiative to disclose information on the origin and manufacturing sites of food products to consumers, utilizing “KAIKO SilkMatcha for Gift,” which is currently available only to a limited group of customers. This initiative is being realized in partnership with NTT DOCOMO ASIA Pte. Ltd. (Singapore), a company driving Web3 business development, through the use of blockchain technology.

In recent years, global consumer interest in “proof of origin” and “transparency of production processes” has been growing rapidly, driven by heightened awareness of health and sustainability. In particular, in the gift market, both the giver and the recipient place great value on “assured quality” and “trustworthy background information” as essential added values. Morus has launched this project in response to such needs.

Through this initiative, information on the origin of the raw materials of SilkMatcha and the manufacturing sites of the products will be recorded and disclosed on the blockchain in the form of digital certificates. By scanning the QR code attached to “KAIKO SilkMatcha for Gift,” consumers will be able to directly access this tamper-proof information, thereby experiencing the KAIKO brand story of “Japanese tradition × modern science” as tangible proof. Furthermore, the project aims to provide overseas consumers with the reassurance that these products are truly made in Japan.

In its initial phase, the project will start with a simple mechanism that provides “proof of origin and manufacturing site.” Looking ahead, Morus envisions granting dedicated accounts to stakeholders across the supply chain—such as partnered sericulture farmers and processors—allowing each to record their own processes and thereby enhancing transparency further. In addition, as the company expands exports and responds to diverse regulatory requirements, Morus plans to issue accounts to overseas retail partners, enabling on-site verification and adapting the framework for use in global markets.

Through this collaboration with NTT DOCOMO ASIA, Morus aims not only to deliver products but also to contribute to enhanced trust, sustainability, and global competitiveness in the food industry.
